What’s on your bucket list? Maybe skydiving, traveling the world, or taking a motorcycle trip across the USA?
Have you ever thought about making a bucket list for your hometown, state, or region?
There are so many incredible things to see right where we are, and often, they might get overlooked by something extravagant like the Seven Wonders of the World. Meanwhile, years can pass where we aren’t having all the great experiences available to us!
Making a bucket list of your hometown can be a whole lot easier to check off than skydiving (unless you’re in Orange County, Virginia and can go skydive at Skydive Orange)! A hometown bucket list will also give you an even greater appreciation for the place you call home.
Since the beginning of 2021, I’ve been going to every state park in Virginia. It’s been a great adventure that’s included kayaking, fishing, biking, swimming, and so much more. And it’s all been a short drive away for little cost. I’ve gotten to experience the beauty of Virginia firsthand, including so many incredible places in nature I had no idea were there.
As you’re out and about, make notes in your phone to keep track of where you’re inspired to explore. Some things will be better to see in different seasons – make note of that so you can plan on enjoying them at the best times.
Not only is creating (and then checking off) a bucket list of your community a great experience for you to do personally – it can also be something great to share as content for your organization.
Get your board members, team, or volunteers involved by challenging them to create their bucket list and then visiting all those places. Each person can share about their experiences in blogs that are posted on your social media sites, newsletter, and website.
You can also see how experiences of the same type of activity, event, or business are different at ages 20, 40, 70, etc. This can give you great insight into different target markets.
Creating a bucket list and enjoying the highlights of your hometown are great ways to experience your community’s wonderful attractions and to generate relevant, interesting content ideas.
