How to repurpose your annual report

When thinking about creating an annual report, you might imagine a big paper document full of data and statistics. The process of capturing all your results and accomplishments (and possibly backtracking if you don’t have a system in place for measuring your results) can be a time-consuming process.

When you DO finally finish it up and hand it in to your stakeholders, that’s when you can breathe a sigh of relief that you’re all done, and forget about it!

Right???

OR… are you missing out on a major opportunity to repurpose powerful content?

Let’s take a step back. First of all, your annual report isn’t just a place to list statistical data, percentages and numbers.

It’s an opportunity to tell a story.

It’s up to you to blend your data with the story and narrative you want to tell about your organization and community. You get to use this as an opportunity to interpret the data for your stakeholders.

One great way to do this is through interviewing local business owners who recently expanded into your community, or who you’d like to replicate within your community. Through hearing the stories of why they located there, they can provide the point of view of an impartial party, which validates the benefits & accomplishments of your community.

Then, take everything you’ve gathered in your annual report, and SHARE IT with your audience! Content creation is a time-consuming investment of energy and resources. Make the most of what you’ve collected by repurposing it.

Repurpose Your Data: Take all the different data you’ve collected and make it into a visually interesting infographic, chart, or graph. Include the data in a brochure, on your website, and on social media.

Share Local Business Owners’ Stories: Pull out some of the best quotes from local business owners, and use them on a press release or as a testimonial on your website. You can also film them and post their videos on your website or online. You can also invite them to come and speak to a different audience.

Remember: if the content you collect is important enough to warrant space in annual report, it is information you should be sharing in other ways, too!

Share what your community has done in the past 12 months with your community and audience, and create excitement for what’s to come in the future.

What do you think about repurposing the content in your annual report? Ever tried this before? Leave a comment down below and share!

‘Til next time,
Sandy
