It only took me 25 years…

Sandy here. Way back in September, I shared in a newsletter how, for 25 years, my biggest career regret had been that I didn’t take the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) exam.

I thought that window had closed for me. However, some colleagues and team members encouraged me that while the window looked like it was closed, I just needed to open it!

And so, after 25 years of working in the economic development space, I began the certification process. Since then, I put in many hours of studying, hosted a study group of peers, and I came up with memorization habits, which was new for me. All of the work was all in preparation for a rigorous and comprehensive exam.

Today, I’m very excited to share that I successfully completed the exam and I am now a Certified Economic Developer!

The designation of Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) is a national recognition that denotes a mastery of skills in economic development, professional attainment and a commitment to personal and professional growth.

I’m thrilled to have this certification and to have achieved this professional development “bucket list” item. I look forward to continuing to support our clients and additional communities across the country in new and exciting ways.

Congratulations to all of the economic developers who invested themselves in this rigorous process!

If there’s a certification, training, or other experience you have regrets about not doing earlier, I hope my journey can inspire you. It’s never too late!
