Why Making Friends Is Good For Business

Last week’s Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) Conference was a great opportunity for me to connect with some amazing people (and one of my favorite events to catch up with familiar faces). I even managed to snap a few selfies!

Lately, I’ve realized just how much of a game changer relationship building can be. The power of a solid connection is truly fundamental to creating your community. And, your community can make all the difference in building your success and happiness

It’s important to remember that relationships aren’t just about who you know—they’re about how you nurture and grow the bonds you create.

Here’s the secret…nurturing relationships isn’t only key to driving growth, it’s fun!

With PPR, what I love most about our work is connecting with interesting and caring people who are passionate about what they do! I have been very diligent and intentional about building some relationships. Others, I have just been lucky. 🙂

One standout example is my relationship with the leadership at Blue Ridge Community and Technical College (BRCTC). Over the twenty-plus years that PPR Strategies (formerly Platinum PR) has been in business, we’ve built a strong bond with BRCTC and look forward to any opportunity to work with their leadership.

Because of the rapport we’ve built with their team, BRCTC and PPR have built a good bond, and they’ve been able to call on us when needed. It’s almost like that one friend you might not see for months, but when you reconnect, it feels like no time has passed at all.

I so value all our clients, and especially the ones that we get to see blossom over the years! It’s pretty remarkable to have this connection and know that PPR has played some role in their success!

Having a relationship with your clients, banker or financial lender, local business owners, and even your mailman matters! You never know who you will meet, what you may inspire in each other, or how that relationship may lead to a long-term friendship.

This topic is even coming up in an upcoming project we’re working on—the Main Street Maryland Conference on October 8th. The keynote speaker is a co-author of Beloved Economies: Transforming How We Work. During her talk, she’ll dive deeper into this idea of connections.
