MEDA Media Relations: The $9.17 Story

| |

Economic development is an investment for economic growth, creates viable opportunities, and contributes to making the region a better place to live, work, and play.

The Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) is a nonprofit organization comprised of economic development professionals who collaborate to promote the economic well-being of Maryland. Keeping this in mind, MEDA strives to find new ways to showcase Maryland at the forefront of economic development and celebrate the people and organizations contributing to the state’s standout success.

MEDA’s Public Policy Committee, in collaboration with the Business Economic and Community Outreach Network at Salisbury University (BEACON), conducted a collaborative study to measure the economic impact of economic development initiatives in the state. Based on 2022 and 2023 survey data from local county economic development offices, it was estimated that an average of $9.17 in state and local tax revenue is generated for every dollar invested in county economic development operations in Maryland.

As MEDA’s communications advisor for many years, PPR Strategies has stewarded the nonprofit’s growth and impact on the state’s economy. Using proven outreach strategies, the PPR team crafts and directs all communications, public relations efforts, social media outreach, and marketing activities to help disseminate the dynamic story of economic development in Maryland.

Knowing that data has a powerful impact, PPR Strategies got to work drafting a press release and media outreach strategy that expertly demonstrated economic development’s value at the story’s core. Through pitching efforts, the “$9.17 Return On Investment” news attracted the attention of regional media outlets, including ABC47, CityBiz, DC News Now, Delmarva Now, Herald-Mail Media, and The Daily Record.

To expand the story’s reach, the PPR team collaborated with MEDA to share the news far and wide on social media. Our team created and posted videos and news coverage on the story across MEDA’s social media channels, earning valuable impressions and reach.
