Economic Development is Not for Amateurs!

When my colleague Jay Garner asked me to help him promote his new book, Economic Development is Not for Amateurs!, I was thrilled to help.

His new book, co-authored with Ross Patten, shows community leaders how to transform local, regional, or state economies and super-charge a community’s revitalization effort to attract jobs, investment, and residents.

One of the many things that I love about this book is that Jay, a baby boomer, and Ross, a millennial, share their different perspectives on how to achieve economic success.

As the president of Garner Economics, LLC, an economic development and site location consulting firm headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, Jay brings insights from his 40-year career. His co-author Ross shares his lessons learned from serving as the city of Covington, Kentucky’s economic development project manager.

Through modeling strategy, tactics, and best practices from across the nation, the authors identify the steps that communities of all sizes can implement to create a roadmap for long-term economic success.

A few key points of his step-by-step process include how to:

  • Create your community’s brand
  • Build a resilient economy prepared for the unexpected
  • Create a skilled workforce as well as a pipeline of future talent
  • Identify the bottlenecks of investment so you can keep your momentum going

And more.
