8 Weeks of Giving: Volunteer Your Time

It’s Week 6 in our 8 Weeks of Giving Series! It’s been a great experience so far finding ways that we can support greater well-being in our community through small acts of kindness or group activities. Thanks for coming along with us for the ride!

This week, our activity was to volunteer our time together as a team.

Ellen, our Communications Specialist, organized a volunteer slot for us with the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army has been pursuing their mission since 1865, and they assist approximately 30 million Americans annually. Their services include homeless shelters, disaster relief, rehabilitation, LGBTQ support, life skills to escape poverty, after-school programs and more. They serve in 131 countries around the globe.

Here’s what Ellen shared about the experience:

As a team volunteer activity, we donated to our local Salvation Army! Sandy, Sophie, and I rang bells for three hours in Downtown Frederick to raise funds for our local Salvation Army, and Meg participated by donating items to the Christmas Angel Tree program. We all agreed that it felt great to contribute to an organization that supports those in our community and spread some holiday cheer in the process.

It was great to step out of the office and into the community together.

Doing any activity outside of the normal routine can sometimes be a step outside of the comfort zone. And it can be easy to feel we don’t have the time to volunteer. Setting a date to volunteer together as a team is a great way to make it a priority — and have fun together, too — all for a good cause!

Leave a comment below and let us know how you’re inspired to give this holiday season!

‘Til next time,
Sandy

P.S. In case you missed it, Season One of our new podcast, the Frederick Factor, is well underway! We’re talking to local underrepresented business owners, professionals, and business leaders about their journeys and what makes Frederick so special to them. Here are some episodes you might enjoy:
