8 Weeks of Giving: Walk for a Cause

Welcome to Week 5 in our 8 Weeks of Giving Series! Our goal is to do small acts of kindness each week to lift up those around us (and ourselves) and to support greater wellbeing in our community. This year, we’re dedicating our series to activities that can support mental health, whether that’s directly or indirectly.

This week’s activity is: Walking for a Cause!

Sophie, our Director of Operations, was the mastermind behind this event. She chose a cause, planned a day for us to walk, and set up our fundraiser!

We set the goal of raising $100 for the Mental Health Association of Frederick County by walking an 8K. The Mental Health Association of Frederick County is an incredible organization. Its mission is to build a strong foundation of emotional wellness for our whole community by preparing resilient children, securing vulnerable families, and standing with people to face crises together. They are available 24 hours a day and 365 days a year to serve families of Frederick County.

We shared our fundraiser on Facebook and promised that if we raised $100, we would wear wacky outfits on our walk!

Here’s more about the experience from Sophie:

We were thrilled to surpass our initial goal and raise $250 for the Mental Health Association of Frederick County. This was over double what we set out to do! Our walk took place in downtown Frederick for some of our team (plus my boyfriend and Ellen’s dog Lumi!). Meg’s walk took place in her hometown in Georgia. Meg even dressed up as Bob Ross so she could be “happy among the trees”!

It was great to step out of our normal routines and take a walk in nature together as a team. Even better was knowing we were supporting an organization that makes such a big difference in our community.

If you donated, or simply enjoyed laughing at our photos above – thank you! 🙂

We’d love to hear from you! Leave a comment below to share your thoughts on our 8 Weeks of Giving series so far.

‘Til next time,
Sandy
