Last week for the 4th of July, we went to the local 4th of July celebrations in Shepherdstown with the Shepherdstown Rotary Club. The community came together for a parade down Main Street, followed by a community picnic.

That evening, there were fireworks that we enjoyed from our back porch.
The fireworks got me thinking about a different kind of “spark”… the spark of inspiration!
How do you get the sparks of inspiration you need in order to create regular content for newsletters, blogs, or social media?
Often, inspiration doesn’t just drop from the sky. More often than not, we need to get more intentional about it!
So here are a few ideas for you to use the next time you need to spark your inspiration:
- Brainstorm with a colleague – It can be difficult to get ideas while staring at a blank computer screen. Grab a colleague and brainstorm community success stories, local news, or other potential topics to share with your audience.
- Talk to your customers – What are your customers (current or prospective) struggling with? What solutions could you offer?
For example, perhaps a local start-up is struggling with some recruitment needs and doesn’t know who to turn to. You can connect them with the right partner organizations and services to help with their recruitment or customized training needs.
You can then share this information and story in a newsletter to get the word out about the services your organization offers start-ups. - Review your recent success – What successes has your organization had? How about local businesses in the community? By sharing your successes, you’re providing inspiration as well as showing the important work your organization is doing in the community.
- Review your local events – What local events are coming up? You can share behind-the-scenes stories of preparing for the event, in addition to inviting your audience to attend.
- Take a walk – Sometimes, great ideas can come by getting fresh air and taking a 10-minute walk outside. When in doubt… go for a walk!

‘Til next time,
