Speaking the Love Language of a Community

I’m a big believer in love languages. If you’ve heard of love languages, you might believe in them too. If you’re unfamiliar, it is a concept that different personalities give and receive love in different ways.

At PPR Strategies, we LOVE showing love to our team members, clients, their places, and their stories — in the ways that best resonate with them. Whether that’s through acts of service, gift-giving, quality time, words of affirmation, or even touch — the best way to connect with your audience is to speak their language through tailored communication and approaches!

Using love languages as a guide, here are some ways PPR can help economic development organizations tailor their approach to showing the community love!

Acts of Service: Economic Development Organizations (EDOs) inherently serve the community. 🙂 Showing up for your community can look like a business appreciation week, community event, or offering programs that improve residents’ everyday lives. PPR can help place-based organizations strategize and implement projects that are well-planned and effectively ensure all in your community “feel the love.”

Quality Time: Making time to connect is vital to deepening any relationship. Create platforms for dialogue to foster collaborative solutions and create meaningful interactions that build relationships and benefit the community. Incorporate face-to-face (or even good ole’ fashion phone calls) as part of your business retention strategy. You can also establish networking hours, in-person and digital forums, and other relationship-building opportunities with help from PPR.

Words of Affirmation: We all need to hear that we’re appreciated! EDOs can develop programs that recognize individuals and acknowledge their contributions to the community. For small businesses, one kind word or review can raise spirits and help sales. PPR can assist your team initiate letter-writing campaigns and other programs that show love to local businesses or help residents share positive reviews for their favorite spots.

Gift Giving: From financial grants and small- and large-scale capital improvement investments to program funding that improves housing, quality of life, and business, EDOs can offer gifts that will continue to give for decades to come and show communities long-term attention. Even ordering a cup of coffee or tea from one local business to another can go a long way in showing someone you care.

The PPR team is here to help your organization find the most impactful way to share these gifts with your community for maximum impact and outreach.
